Twisted Root Burger Co., Richardson

RJ & I have been waiting and watching for the latest Twisted Root Burger Co. to open in Richardson. It's located in a spiffy new shopping center at the southeast corner of Campbell Rd @ I-75 , right behind Panera.

We'd not been to their Deep Ellum location but had heard good things about them for quite some time so it was a treat for us to make our first visit.

We arrived shortly after noon on a Sunday and there was already a good crowd. The Richardson spot is fairly roomy but not huge and tables were at a premium by the time we left. You just have to be bold and grab one as soon as you see somebody leaving. There is also seating outside on a patio but the day we were there, it was extremely windy and only saw a few brave patrons out there.

Order at the counter and grab yourself a spot to sit. The menu is written out on rolls of brown Kraft paper that you'll see when you first walk in.

Twisted Root offers the regulars - hamburgers & cheeseburgers (1/2 pounders that are hand shaped), turkey , ostrich, venison, buffalo and veggie burgers and 5 specialty burgers (as if buffalo, ostrich & venison burgers weren't special). RJ picked the cheeseburger, all the way and I selected a specialty - the blue Cheese & Tangy Buffalo Sauce burger. We also got an order of the "Fried Ride"- a sampling of all their fried 'root' items: sweet potato chips, fries, onion rings, fried green beans and fried pickles (all of which are available for ordering alone as well).

The wait was lengthy- not surprising considering everything is cooked to order and the fact that the place was packed. But it was worth the wait. Both of our burgers were huge and delicious - plump, juicy patties perfectly done. Mine was slathered with a creamy blue cheese concoction and doused with buffalo sauce. RJ's was an A+ cheeseburger.

We both enjoyed the "Fried Ride", although it was way more than we could handle. It would be a good thing to split with a couple of their milkshakes or a root beer float. Our favs of all the fried goodies were the green beans and the pickles. Next time, we'll probably go with order of just one item. Yes, there will be a next time- for sure!
