The Bluebird Cafe, Wills Point

RJ and I found a jewel this past weekend. We had been visiting friends in Mineola in East Texas and on the trip home, we stopped at The Bluebird Cafe in Wills Point to grab some lunch.

We'd seen this place before on a past outing and had been wanting to give it a try - it just looked like it would be good! The Bluebird Cafe is right off Hwy 80 on North Commerce at South 4th St. and can be seen from the highway.... just look for the big bluebird on their sign above the door.

We got there about 12:30 on Saturday and the place was packed. You order at the counter and most folks ahead of seemed to be regulars, knowing exactly what they wanted (chili appeared to be a favorite). Lucky for us, there were five or six in ,line already so we had time to look the menu over. While we did see diners getting a variety of items, we figured we couldn't go too wrong with cheeseburgers and we were right. The Bluebird Cafe burgers are the real deal - hand-shaped, very ample patties, cooked on an obviously well-seasoned grill, on nice fresh buns and adorned with lettuce (leaves, not chopped), tomato slices, cheese and onions. I added in a side of fries and a Dr. Pepper. RJ went with "wet fries' - fries doused in cream gravy. He LOVED them.

The Bluebird is not fancy but it is homey and comfortable and we can't wait to visit again. If you are in Wills Point or passing through, you've got to give it a try!
