Cub Scouts Pinewood Derby - Vista Ridge Mall
Annual Pinewood Derby set for Saturday, January 24
at Vista Ridge Mall
LEWISVILLE, Texas. January 9, 2008 ~ On Saturday, January 24, members of Cub Scout Pack 1202 of the Boys Scouts of America will pack up their pinewood racing cars and head to Vista Ridge Mall for the Annual Pinewood Derby. The annual event, called Race For Hunger, will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the shopping center and everyone is invited to bring a non-perishable food item that will be donated to the Christian Community Action’s Food Pantry.
Approximately 50 scouts and scout family members will participate in the event, creating cars out of a block of wood. To design the car, the participant can only use four plastic wheels and four nails. The car can be finished and decorated in most any fashion and many are elaborately painted and carved. The 2008 race included cars that had monkeys riding bananas, bowling lanes, characters from Dr. Seuss and more. The hand-made cars will race on an aluminum track.
The Pinewood Derby is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m., and races will be held throughout the day. The Derby will be inside Vista Ridge Mall on the lower level near Dillard’s.
Vista Ridge Mall, featuring Dillard’s, Macy’s, JCPenney, Sears, Cinemark 15 and more than 140 specialty stores and restaurants, is at I-35E and Round Grove Road (FM 3040) in Lewisville, Texas.
