Most everybody loves Christmas lights and there are always plenty of places around North Texas for holiday viewing. You can bundle up the kids, pack some thermoses of hot chocolate and bags of cookies and pile yourselves into the car to head out. Here's a list of just a few places that have some spectacular twinkling going on this season!
| Arlington Interlochen Lights Display During the holiday season, homeowners in this northwest Arlington subdivision join their neighbors in adorning their homes with festive lights and holiday exhibits. This neighborhood attracts spectators and tour groups from near and far. The holiday lights in the Arlington neighborhood of Interlochen are known throughout the Metroplex as a stunning display. The light competition usually begins in mid-December. The route to view the lights traditionally begins at Randol Mill at Westwood, west of Cooper Street. Highland Park Neighborhood (Highland Park, TX)
This has been our favorite for over 40 years. The main entrance as we call it, is at Armstrong Parkway and Preston Road. See map here The area of beautifully decorated homes consist of about a 21 block area, which is bordered by Preston on the east side, Mockingbird as the northern border, the Dallas Toll way on the west side and Armstrong Parkway, which should be your entrance way. Exquisite holiday displays that will delight both the young and old in this drive by tour of lights and displays. Thank you Highland Park for giving so much at Christmas time to the Dallas community. Excellent must see for all.

Kessler Park Holiday Lights (Dallas, TX)
The Kessler Park neighborhood in north Oak Cliff overlooking the Downtown Dallas skyline and in the shadows of Methodist Central Hospital, will once again be displaying thousands of lights on the traffic islands of this beautiful community and complimented with dozens of homes being decorated in colorful displays. Farmers Branch
Farmers Branch Tour of Lights
Thousands of vehicles are expected throughout December to feast their eyes on 300,000 lights in trees and on displays during the 2007 edition of the Farmers Branch Holiday Tour of Lights, continuing through the end of the month. The Holiday Tour now continues each night, from 6:30 until 9:30 p.m. through New Year’s Eve. The driving tour begins at I-35E at Valley View and follows the candy cane signs down William Dodson Parkway and around to the Farmers Branch Historical Park. Admission to the Historical Park portion is free with donations accepted by the non-profit organizations assisting with the display. The city of Farmer's Branch is lighting up the sky for Santa and his real reindeer. The Tour of Lights is a spectacle of more than 400,000 holiday lights and dozens of animated and wooden displays on a tour from City Hall through the Historical Park. Visitors can view the lights from sleighs or from their cars; Santa will be waiting for you at the end of the tour. 6:30-9:30 p.m. thru Dec 31 (except the 24th and 25th).
Fort Worth
Zoobilee of Lights at the Fort Worth Zoo, Colonial Pkwy & University Dr (871-7050). An illuminating holiday celebration featuring 300,000 lights, live stage productions, choirs, carolers, and a laser light show; Dec. 12-Jan. 3 (closed Dec. 24-25): 6-9 p.m.; gen adm $8, children 3-12 and seniors $6, 2 & under free.
Christmas in the Stockyards - North Main & Exchange Ave (817-626-7921). Rodeo Plaza in the Stockyards National Historic District displays the largest Christmas tree of lights thru Dec 24.
Sundance Square(817-390-8711). Every building in the square is outlined with white lights thru Dec 20 with free evening performances Thu-Sat 7-9 p.m.
Frisco
Christmas in the Square
The 2008 Christmas in the Square is going to be bigger and better than before, with over 450,000 visitors expected! The largest choreographed holiday lights and music display in Texas is combined with family-oriented activities to produce a "signature destination event" for Frisco. Christmas in the Square lights and music will commence on November 28, 2008 and will continue each evening through January 2, 2009. Details at www.friscosquare.com

Moody Gardens Festival of Lights

More than 3 million twinkling lights in scenic displays are set along two miles of winding roads. The theme park also offers a unique out-of-car experience in Holiday Village midway through the drive with concessions, carousel rides, Santa’s Store for shopping and photos with Santa on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. A new feature this year is Holiday Magic created by Josh Barnett’s Lightasmic, which includes a 10-minute choreographed light show and a new walk-through lighted wonderland, “Holidays Around the World.” Prairie Lights will be open from 6-9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday non-holidays and 6 -10 p.m. Friday-Saturday and holidays. Marshall
Holiday Trail of Lights
In 1987, the community of Marshall, Texas joined together in the spirit of peace and brotherhood to create a holiday extravaganza called Wonderland of Lights. The festival begins the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving and runs through December 31st. Today, this festival rivals any Christmas lighting scene in the country, known as the “Granddaddy of Texas Lighting Festivals”, with over 10 million lights in the community.
The Historic Harrison County Courthouse, located in the center of the Downtown Square is the festival's "Crown Jewel" decorated with over 125,000 tiny white lights. You will find a variety of entertainment and activities, including live entertainment on the downtown square, Church of the Bells, carriage rides, bus tours to neighborhoods with elaborate decorations and lighted scenes, driving tour through historic downtown with displays over 24 feet tall, visits with Santa, the famous “lighted” Christmas Parade and an outdoor ice skating rink.
