NAAN in Allen

NOTE: Since my first posting about NAAN, the restaurant has since closed.

Some of my girlfriends and I met at The Cheesecake Factory new Watters Creek shopping center in Allen a few weeks ago. Besides the wonderful food at the restaurant, the shopping center itself is pretty, with winding little streets and a beautiful lake that several of the restaurants & businesses overlook.

We couldn't wait to go back so we scheduled another outing and looked over the list of places to lunch. One of us suggested NAAN, a Korean & sushi restaurant. I'm not big on sushi but was game to try it.

We all arrived right at 11am, opening time, and we the first folks there. The decor is very nice, sleek & modern and the tables, at least the area where we were seated, had glass top cooking areas.

Our waiter was prompt in taking our drink orders and asked if we'd like an appetizer, maybe some edamame. Eda-what-e? One of us knew what it was and said yes. BTW, they are boiled, salted soy beans. Doesn't sound too appetizing, eh?  They were actually very good- soybeans still in their pods, boiled briefly, salted and served warm. You just pull the pod thru your teeth to pop the soy beans out. There's not a lot to them but I loved the texture.

While we perused the lunch menu, our waiter brought us small bowls of miso soup, another soy bean product, that was mild, yet yummy. I already felt healthier already now that I had not one, but two soy bean offerings in me

We all spotted the same item on the menu that was perfect for us- a "Bento Box" called "Ladies Who Lunch'. This consisted of your choice of meat ( I ordered the spicy barbecue chicken), half of a California roll,  choice of edamame or rice, cucumber salad & spring mix.

I really enjoyed the chicken. It was just spicy enough for me - tasty and  not too hot. The spring mix had a nice citrus dressing on it. The cucumber and sprouts were also a pleasant surprise. Even the sticky rice was good! The California Roll- not my cup of tea. I mostly ate the crab meat in it and passed on the rest.

There were lots of other items on the menu that I'd love to try, so I will be going back! The prices were reasonable and we all had a great time.

I can't wait to check out some of the other restaurants at Watters Creek too.
