Fort Worth Botanical Gardens
Want a way to spend a fun and FREE day? How about a visit to the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens. RJ and I were in Cowtown last weekend and stopped by there to pass a couple of hours. RJ had never been and for me, it's been years since I was last there but the minute we got out of the car, lots of good memories began pouring in my head.
My grandparents used to take us the Botanical Gardens when my sister and I were youngsters. We'd also cut through the park on our way to church on Sundays. I recall going to many birthday parties that were held there and after finishing cake and punch, all the kids would run over to the maze that they used to have on the far south west side. We'd spend hours lost in there, trying to find our way out.
This past Saturday was nice and pleasant and walking around the area was a great treat for the senses. There were lots of folks there, picnicking, playing, sitting, and looking at the flowers. RJ & I first headed over to the Oval Rose Garden, where visitors will find thousands of rose blooms in amongst the beautiful brick trellises. We made our way to the Rose Ramp and Lower Rose Garden with the terraced fountains leading to the pretty, small lake at the bottom. We sat by the lake for a bit and watched turtles swimming playfully. They didn't seem to be too bothered by the onlookers and 'performed' for us.

You can find pathways hidden all around the park, winding through woods, flowers and creeks, and RJ & I managed to get a bit lost but made it back to where we started from and set out going to opposite direction this time, towards the Texas Native Forest Boardwalk. This area is a great place for the kids. It's like an outdoor classroom with interactive activities along the route. Plus it's just plain beautiful!
There are areas at the Botanical Garden that do charge an admission but the fees are reasonable. For the Japanese Gardens -Adults $3.00 weekdays, $3.50 week ends and holidays -
Seniors $.50 off regular admission - Children (4-12 yrs.) $2.00 - under 4 free. The Conservatory - Adults $1.00 - Seniors $.50 - Children (4-12 yrs.) $.50 - under 4 free
(one adult may sponsor up to 5 children).
There's also a wonderful restaurant open Tuesday thru Sunday for lunch, a gift shop and areas for business meetings weddings and the like.
Spend a day relaxing and enjoying nature!
