Fort Worth Kimbell Museum and Stockyards

We made our way over to Fort Worth again to check out the Impressionist exhibit at the beautiful Kimbell Museum, in the Cultural District across the street from Will Rogers and Casa Manana. It such a neat area and the Kimbell is a top-notch museum and this particular exhibit is stellar. On loan from the Art Institute of Chicago, these paintings represent some of the world's finest. You'll see Van Gogh, Monet, Manet, Degas, Renoir, Gauguin and Lautrec, just to name a few. Some of these will simply take your breath away and when you think about the history behind them, it's amazing. You'll be able to catch these thru November 2, 2008. Admission is $16 for adults but Tuesdays are half price- a bargain!

After enriching our cultural side, we headed out for a different kind of "enrichment". We'd read about a hamburger joint located in the famous Fort Worth Stockyards called the Star Cafe. All of the reviews I'd seen were very positive. I wanted to make sure it was actually good stuff and not just written about because it's a tourist hangout. The reviews were right! The Star Cafe is a long-standing tradition in the Stockyards. The walls are lined with all sorts of western themed memorabilia and it has a real 'cowboy' feel to it. We were seated right away and our waitress was nice as could be.

RJ ordered the Star Burger - a giant double cheeseburger topped with cheese, bacon, jalapenos and chili. I stuck with something a little simpler- their Chili Cheeseburger. I am picky about the chili used on chili cheeseburgers....some places think they have the best homemade chili around and they really, really don't. Star Cafe's chili was great. Both burgers were huge, juicy and messy- the kind you can't pick up too easily They came with fries; however, I think you could substitute salad with it if you wanted.

They also had sandwiches, salads, and entrées- chicken fried steak, steaks, etc. There were several regulars dining while we were there. The food is well worth a drive in from anywhere in the area!

After stuffing our faces, we thought we should at least explore the area to try to walk off some of our lunch. Heading east, we strolled down Exchange. There are plenty of this to do and see - hotels, restaurants, shops, and more. You can eat and shop till you drop, then find a hotel to sleep until you are ready for more!

Fort Worth is always easy to navigate and there is not a lack for things to do!
