Cliff Cafe & the Dallas Farmers' Market
Saturday was a beautiful day, wasn't it! RJ needed to plan a route downtown for a job site he had to be at bright & early this morning. Afterwards, we headed to Cliff Cafe, one of our favorites and one I've written about before.
Had my usual - the Grilled Cheese sandwich- gruyere, sun-dried tomatoes and basil on sour dough bread, grilled to golden brown and served with french fries & apple cider slaw. The combination of tastes in the sandwich is to die for. A+++
RJ ordered his normal pick too - the Belmont Breakfast - two eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausage, potatoes and an English muffin. Another A+
The food is always consistently great at the Cliff. Service is good with friendly waiters. There's an eclectic crowd that frequents the place and there seem to be lots of regulars.

We noticed a table tent telling about upcoming concert series they'll be offering on Thursday evenings, Barefoot at the Belmont, beginning May 8th with the Doug Burr Band. It looks like a nice way to spend a warm Texas summer night! More info at: http://www.belmontdallas.com/newsletter/may08/
Once we left the Cliff, we figured we could stock up on veggies and went over to the Farmers' Market, another fun stop. It was bustling too. The plant nurseries down there are always crowded and look just beautiful with all the colorful arrays of flowers.

The enclosed pavilion has been recently renovated and is now air-conditioned. It wasn't full by any means on our visit Saturday but several booths, including ones selling furniture, Mexican pottery, a coffee bar and an organic meat stand.
The outdoor sheds were full, with vendors passing out samples of fruits & veggies to the tons of customers. The produce is always the best and you can buy honeys, nuts and dried fruit, dried pastas, herb & vegetable plants, even fresh salmon! Bring cash and your appetite and you are set!

FYI- there's a Mexican restaurant, El Mercado Cocina Mexicana, on the premises too. It's been awhile since we've eaten there but as I recall, it was good stuff & authentic Mexican.
