Texas Beauties - Bluebonnets and Other Wildflowers

COOL tool alert! Did you know that the Texas Department of Transportation offers a web page for finding the wildflowers and foliage in most any county in the state at any time of year!  Just click here, find the wildflowers you would like to see in the drop down menu, specify the county and you can even choose the roadway you might want to travel on.

Another neat fact -  bluebonnets were originally called 'buffalo clover' and selecting them as the state flower became a long-lasting battle of the sexes!  Read all about the history of our illustrious flower  here.

And, if you're heading towards Austin, consider checking out the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, quite an extensive center, south of town. Even if you can't make it down, the website itself is chock full of information and great pictures.
