Rise & Dine, Cavanuagh Flight Museum in Addison

Another Saturday, another nice day! We did a ‘repeat’ and went back to
Rise & Dine in Addison for brunch.  We had such a good meal there before and really enjoyed the atmosphere & friendly staff.

RJ ordered the same things he’d had on our previous stop- Eggs Benedicts and a half order of biscuits with gravy. It was simply too good last time to order anything else.  The quality was consistent – excellent again!

Not really feeling like having breakfast, I did venture out and ordered off the lunch menu. They had a combo with half a “Classic” sandwich and your choice of the Soup of the Day or a salad. I picked a chicken salad sandwich and the soup was Chicken Noodle- very homemade and very tasty- full of big chunks of chicken, carrots. Celery and lots of egg noodles. The chicken salad was not the best I’ve ever had but it was good – heaped on fresh wheat bread with crisp lettuce and tomato slices.

The prices are righteous at Rise & Dine, great service and great food. Check them out!
4135 Beltline Road, Addison, TX.     Open 7 days a week, 6am to 2:30pm

Once we finished breakfast, we decided to find the Cavanaugh Flight Museum, also in Addison. Saw a few signs on Addison Road, followed them and went right to the place – it IS a little hidden but if you can spot the green signs with arrows pointing the way, you shouldn’t have any trouble.

We had been to the Frontiers of Flight Museum at Love Field a few weekends ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. Cavanaugh is nice too. I don’t think it has as many really impressive things on exhibit but it is chock full of things to see. The planes and memorabilia are housed in four hangars. The first had maybe a dozen or so planes, including a B-25 bomber named “How ‘Boot That” & a Sopwith Camel.

Hangar 2 has a small snack area and along with 6-8 aircraft. Hangars 3 is filled with planes that appeared to be in a restorative stage and Hangar 4, the largest, had aircraft, automobiles and tanks, including a Messerschmidt, a Phantom II, a MiG-21, a pretty cool display of C-ration and MRE meals, two beautiful old Chryslers, & a helicopter.

When you’re finished with all the aircraft, back in the main building, there’s also a neat gallery of prints from internationally famed artists & touted as one of the largest collections of aviation art in the country, many signed by historic notables such as Jimmy Doolittle & members of his raid, Chuck Yeager, various astronauts. It’s well worth your time to take a look.

The Cavanaugh’s admission price is $8 for adults, $4 for children 6-12 (under 6- free). 4572 Claire Chennault, Addison, TX.   Open Mon-Sat  9am - 5pm, Sunday 11am-5pm
