Manny's Uptown in Dallas

Last Sunday, we met some very good friends for lunch. The restaurant that was our first choice already had a 35 minute wait and since our friends were in the midst of moving into a new apartment, time wasn't anything we wanted to waste.

We ended up at Manny's Uptown, a place we just love. We don't get to Manny's as often as we'd like because it's not in our neck of the woods, but when we do, it's a real treat. They offer wonderful Mexican 'comfort foods' and everything on the extensive menu looks good. We haven't tried it all but have ventured out on a few visits to sample something new.

This past week, I selected Manny's Tacos - you can choose from beef or chicken- I went with beef in flour tortillas. Out came two lightly browned, soft tacos filled with grilled beef, onions and peppers. On the side was a mound of rice and several slices of just ripe avocados. These were some of the best tacos I have ever had and the rice was equally as good. The avocado slices were downright perfect....nutty and slightly soft.

RJ and one of our friends decided on Brisket Tacos and each had a cup of Fideo soup (Vermicelli noodles in a spicy chicken broth) to go along with it. The tacos are stuffed with chunks of a slow simmered brisket, then lightly grilled. Accompanying these two bad boys are a small cup of the brisket gravy, rice, beans and avocado slices. A meal fit for kings!

Our other friend was eating light and picked Manny's Homemade Tortilla Soup. She was absolutely delighted with it- big hunks of chicken, avocados & lots of tortilla strips in a chicken stock.

The Manny's location that we always go to is located at 3521 Oak Grove in Dallas. That's about a block east of Central @ Lemmon. Nestled on a wooded lot in a cute little house, Manny's is pretty inside, has a friendly staff and will give you a nice dining experience. There's second location in Addison - 1490 Midway Road, just south of Beltline.

Manny's has all the regulars on their menu - enchiladas, tacos, fajitas, rellenos & tamales and they also have 8 breakfast dishes served all day. There's enough here to keep anyone coming back for a long time. Thumbs up from the four of us that dined at this past week's outing!
