Benedict's in Addison & Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine
Saturday was another terrific day and we decided to head to Addison for breakfast. We weren't sure where we wanted to eat but we know there are plenty of choices along Beltline and in the general area.
Made it down as far as Midway and turned heading south. We both spotted The Blue Goose, which neither of us had been to in umpteen years but we did recall they used to offer brunch on the weekends. It sounded good and worth a try. When we pulled into the parking lot, we didn't see the "Open' sign on so RJ popped in to see what their hours were. Unfortunately they didn't open until 11am and it was 10:30. We were too famished to wait, after all, it had been HOURS since we gorged on dinner at Mi Cocina the night before and weakness was setting in ![]()
So, we retraced out steps and went back along Beltline. Next idea was Benedict's, a place we've never been to but had seen it there for years. It's on the corner of Beltline & Inwood. It didn't look too terribly crowded, so what the heck, we went in.
Inside, Benedict's is cheerful and clean. We were seated immediately and the waiter came right away to take our drink orders. RJ wanted coffee and they brought a carafe to leave at the table for him.
Next, our waiter pointed out several items that Benedict's is known for- Eggs Benedict, OF COURSE, their frittatas, giant pancakes and more. RJ went for the Eggs Benedicts (when in Rome....) but I saw something on the menu that caught my eye and sounded really good- "Harry's Hash in a Pan" - corned beef hash in a 'skillet', topped with two basted eggs and served with an English muffin (or toast). I am not big on eggs but this was perfect. The hash was terrific, the eggs done just right and even the muffin was good.
Now, RJ loves Eggs Benedict- he has had them so many times, he is an 'unofficial aficianado' on Hollandaise sauce
Everythime we go out for breakfast and he gets them he 'rates' them. Benedict's scored big- he said the sauce was some of the best he's ever had.
Benedict's is only open from breakfast and lunch. We saw other menu items being served around us and everything looked good. The lunch menu sounded great as well - sandwiches, soups and salads. We will definitely be going back - and soon!
After we left Benedict's, we weren't ready to go home so we headed west on Beltline and finally ended up in Grapevine. We've been curious about that new Great Wolf Lodge - we see the tv ads all the time so we thought we'd see what the hooplah was all about.
The parking lot was packed and there seemed to be lots of activity and people around before we even stepped inside. Once, indoors, it was very crowded. It was close to 3pm by the time we got there and I think everyone was trying to check in at the same time- there was a LONG line at the reservation desk.
The lobby looks 'lodge-y" - there's a huge fireplace, lost of wood and appropriate decor.... animated characters, wolves, trees, a tree house ....all cute and aimed at families.
The lobby has large glass windows overlooking the waterpark, which had jillions of people swimming and enjoying the slides.

We walked around the place, saw a couple of restaurants (all looked very casual), a spa, snack spots like a Pizza Hut and a Starbucks, arcades, a camp room, internet room and more waterpark 'stuff' that's still being built outdoors.
We checked prices and room rates - they are offering a $199 special- good for a couple of types of rooms but during the week only. And, if we read things correctly, only hotel guests have access to the waterpark. Room rate does include admission however.
Looks like it would be a fun place to take the family for a weekend getaway - or better yet, go during the week if you can, to take advantage of the lower prices and smaller crowds.
