Dutch's & The Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo

We drove over to Fort Worth again last weekend specifically to go to Dutch's in Fort Worth. We've seen the place several times and have read lots of reviews about it so we had to try it for ourselves.

Dutch's is located right by the TCU campus in the same strip along University with the old TCU theater and Record Town. That area thrives with lore. In fact, Dutch's is named for the legendary Dutch Meyer, TCU's most successful football coach in the history of the Horned Frogs. Plus the fact that the place is run by Grady Spears & Louis Lambert (of Reata fame) is nothing to scoff at.

It's your basic burgers and beer hangout and it is good! I got their #4 ~ Hickory BBQ & Bacon Burger with a side of onion rings and RJ went for #2 ~ The Lineman, a loaded double cheeseburger with a side of fries. We added a couple of sodas and were ready to dive in.

Both burgers were big & sloppy good, the kind that require lost of napkins. I loved mine- it was layered with hickory sauce, a big beef patty, American cheese, bacon and Thousand Island dressing. The bun was similar to a Hawaiian roll- a little on the sweet side. RJ's was so big, he had to cut it in half to eat - it was truly a giant.

I know RJ enjoyed the fries he got &  I will choose them next time. I didn't care for the onion rings I ordered. They were good but I think they could have been in the fryer a little longer - the onions inside were still pretty raw and I have a 'thing' about that. I like for them to be translucent and soft inside.

But, all in all, this place gets a definite thumbs up. I hear the "Sliders' are extremely popular at Dutch's. I bet paired with an ice cold beer, they are terrific. Maybe next time ......

You know, this would be a good weekend to be in Fort Worth. The Stock Show & Rodeo is going on and is the definitive Cowtown event!

When we were growing up in Fort Worth, we'd go every year, of course.... everybody did. You'd go on 'school days' when you got your free tickets. My mother would drop me, my sister and a carload of girlfriends off for a day of fun. We'd be there for hours by ourselves but times were simpler and safer then.

And we'd stuff our faces silly. Last time I ate cotton candy was at the Stock Show- sticky, luscious, pink cotton candy. We'd ride every single ride and go into all the exhibit buildings. I can almost smell the livestock! I remember being there on very cold days, rainy days, and windy days but each was always a blast.

Easy to get to (well, ANY place in Fort Worth is pretty easy to get to), the Fort Worth Stock show is located at 3400 Burnett Tandy Dr. , Fort Worth, TX 76107. That's right by Casa Mana, Will Rogers Coliseum & Auditorium and all the Fort Worth art museums. It's basically at University Drive and Lancaster. The event runs thru February 3rd so GO!
You'll have fun!
